Congratulations to 2013-2014 Partner of the Year, City of Grand Prairie!

The City of Grand Prairie was chosen by an award committee composed of North Central Texas Council of Governments staff and previous Air North Texas award recipients.

Based on criteria in the Air North Texas Partner Agreement and information provided on the annual progress report, the City of Grand Prairie was selected as Partner of the Year.

The City of Grand Prairie implemented a comprehensive outreach and communications plan that included events, social media, employee engagement and outreach to youth and businesses.

The City also distributed Air North Texas information at local health fairs and fitness events and used campaign materials to promote clean air through an environmental newsletter sent to hundreds of residents.

  • Planning several events to celebrate Clean Air Action Day. This year, Grand Prairie’s celebrations included contests for city employees and businesses as well as an art contest for children attending camp.

  • Distributing Air North Texas information at local health fairs and fitness events and used campaign materials to promote clean air through an environmental newsletter sent to hundreds of residents.

Outstanding Media Engagement

Denton County Transportation Authority published an article about Clean Air Action Day and other events promoting air quality in the inaugural issue of EnRoute News, a newsletter that is distributed to passengers.


Hood County Clean Air Coalition
Outstanding Initiative

Hood County Clean Air Coalition organized a school art contest and Earth Day Museum event that helped students understand the value of healthy air.

City of Plano
Outstanding Advertising

The City of Plano implemented extensive efforts to publicize Air North Texas to residents through social media and city newsletters, including a full-page ad to promote Clean Air Action Day. Thousands of residents have learned about the need to make clean air choices thanks to Plano’s consistent messaging in their advertising campaign.

Outstanding Partner Involvement

The University of Texas at Arlington coordinated partner attendance at campus events and helped recruit a new Air North Texas partner, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. UTA has also collaborated with other Air North Texas partners to implement projects aimed at improving air quality, such as the Metro Arlington Xpress bus service.


City of Fort Worth
Outstanding Outreach

The City of Fort Worth made extra efforts to reach out to Spanish-speaking communities. They sent a bilingual water bill insert explaining the Air Quality Index and Air North Texas to 225,000 households. Additionally, the City’s bilingual newsletter has featured several articles about air quality in the past year, providing helpful information about car maintenance and ozone season.

 

Partner Recognition

Improving air quality in North Texas requires consistent, innovative efforts throughout the year, and on Dec. 11 the Regional Transportation Council will recognize Air North Texas partners that demonstrated this through outstanding contributions to Air North Texas, the regional clean air campaign.
